Statement on the Desecration of Gravestones in Mt. Caramel Cemetery

Date: Wednesday, March 1, 2017

The members of the Philadelphia Interfaith Walk for Peace and Reconciliation join our voices with the many other Interfaith organizations, religious groups and individuals who decry the desecration of gravestones in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.  This hateful act is not reflective of the Philadelphia we know and love and we hope that the perpetrator(s) will soon be identified and brought to justice.

We recognize that this vandalism is just one symptom of the far larger and more insidious escalation of bigotry and intolerance that has been growing exponentially since the election.  Together with other groups who share our values we are committed to fostering the growth of kindness, tolerance and mutual respect among all who live here.  All are cordially invited to the 14th Annual Philadelphia Interfaith Walk for Peace and Reconciliation, scheduled for Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 in the West Oak Lane community.
