10th Annual Walk for Peace and Reconciliation
April 28, 2013

The 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Philadelphia Interfaith Walk for Peace and Reconciliation on April 28, 2013 was a tremendous success.  Our theme this year was “Stewards of the Earth, Stewards of Each Other, Stewards of Peace.” Some 500 walkers from toddlers to great-grandparents came together to celebrate peace and increase dialogue and understanding across traditional divisions of religion, culture and race.

Following much the same route traveled on the first walk in 2004, this tenth annual walk began at Al Aqsa Islamic Society, stopped at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church and ended at Congregation Rodeph Shalom Synagogue where the Muslim afternoon prayers were said with many non-Muslims participating.

The walk took on an especially poignant significance this year, following closely upon the bombings in Boston and reminding participants of how important this work is of building bridges of understanding between religions and cultures.

The next monthly Peace Walk planning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15th at 6:30 PM at the Al Aqsa Islamic Center, 1501 Germantown Avenue (at 3rd and Jefferson Streets) in Philadelphia.  All are welcome to attend.  Check out some of the photos from this year's walk on our multimedia page.
